Chemex-kahvinkeittimen keksi Peter Schlumbohm vuonna 1941 Chicagossa, Yhdysvalloissa. Kemistinä Peter ymmärsi erittäin hyvin maun ja kofeiinin uuttamista. Tämän ansiosta Chemex ei ole vain kaunis design-esine, vaan myös toimiva – siksi se on luultavasti osa Mooman pysyvää näyttelyä New Yorkissa.
