長崎県の波佐見町では、過去400年にわたり磁器が生産されてきました。この伝統を基に、カリフォルニアを拠点とするデザイナー、篠本拓弘氏の指揮のもと、Hasami Porcelainは誕生しました。製造工程では様々な職人の手を経て、最後に一つひとつ手作業でスタンプが押され、真にユニークな個性が完成します。
それぞれの職人は、土や石の調合、製品の成形、釉薬がけ、焼成中の窯の管理など、それぞれの専門分野に長けています。彼らはそれぞれの方法で、他のすべてとは自然に異なる作品を生み出すことに貢献しています。波佐見の村におけるこの分業体制は、江戸時代の初めから何世代にもわたって受け継がれてきました。
