Chemex（ケメックス）コーヒーメーカーは、1941年にアメリカ・シカゴでピーター・シュルンボームによって発明されました。化学者であったピーターは、風味とカフェインの抽出について深く理解していました。その知識が活かされたChemexは、美しいデザインでありながら機能性も兼ね備えており、ニューヨーク近代美術館（MoMA）の常設展示に選ばれている理由もうなずけます。
Chemex用フィルターのペーパーは一般的なものよりやや厚めで、非常にクリアな抽出液が得られますが、やや粗めの挽き目が推奨されます。そのため、抽出直前に豆を挽くのが最適です。豆は密閉可能なジッパー付き袋に入れ、常温で保存してください。

Ever since I switched to these filters, my morning brew tastes noticeably cleaner with zero grit at the bottom of the cup. They seat perfectly in the brewer and the thicker paper really does a great job of holding back the fines.
The 1941 design pedigree really shows—extraction is smooth and even every single morning, and the folds are pre-creased just right for a snug fit. I've gone through a whole box without a single tear or clog.
The thicker paper holds up way better than cheap filters—no tearing even when I pour aggressively straight from the kettle. Only gripe is the price per pack, but the clean cup and lack of papery taste make it worth it.
